Our Story

We are abandoning the label of pet shop, the image of a cluttered, dark, stale store, with staff frequently offering outdated, unethical or sometimes dangerous advice. Instead, we are bringing pet and wildlife care in line with modern living and knowledge. Our store was just the start of our plans, we have set in motion a host of ideas to bring convenience, knowledge and quality to the heart of your lifestyle. 

After graduating from university, Josh with an Honours degree in Animal Behaviour, and Rachel with an Honours degree in Bio Veterinary Science, we worked as colleagues in animal care, for a group of scientists at the University of Liverpool, for several years. Having both kept a wide variety of animals all our lives, but now choosing and paying for their products ourselves, we noted that whilst retailers in other industries gave customers the ability to find new and exciting products, the pet and wildlife industry lagged behind in a serious way.

In 2016 we decided to launch our own company, where our focus is on using our knowledge to hand-pick the products that we stock, with you, and your pets and wildlife at the heart of our decisions. Our products are not only fantastic, but are also high quality, appropriate and ethical, and are natural or sourced locally or within the UK where possible. We want to help you to make informed choices about the products you purchase from our store, and we do not simply stock our shelves with mainstream brands. 

Supporting other small businesses is core to our ethos, and means our products have a lower carbon footprint. But we want to go further than supporting other small businesses. We want to give back to our community, and particularly strive to support projects however we can, which we believe will benefit UK pets and wildlife.

In 2019 we expanded our venture to include our fantastic dog grooming salon "Innoscent Spa" which is located right next to Ginger&Browns. Then in 2020 we doubled the size of our store! Since then, we have grown from a team of two, to a team of seven, and we intend to keep growing and offering bigger and better services!
